Chet Faker / Marcus Marr – The Trouble With Us by Kinopravda
Kino-Pravda (“Film Truth”) was a newsreel series by Dziga Vertov, Elizaveta Svilova and Mikhail Kaufman. Working mainly during the 1920s, Vertov promoted the concept of kino-pravda, or film-truth, through his newsreel series. His driving vision was to capture fragments of actuality which, when organized together, showed a deeper truth which could not be seen with the naked eye.
After more than 90 years, the meaning of Kinopravda has completely changed, to be more specific кино [“cinema” in Russian], правда [“truth” in Russian] words are totally contrary. This is why we call our group Kinopravda. Dziga Vertov and his crew were capable of making art by capturing the actuality, to make real films and in the same time the literature wasn’t involved, they worked with only sequences of real moments and with reality embedded in fiction. Our main goal is rethinking, restoring the role of art in filmmaking. We are an international group of filmmakers based in Barcelona.
Nominated by Márton Jedlicska:
‘It is good to see in general that with the decline of the TV and music channels video clips have not disappeared, on the contrary! Last year a lot of good clips appeared in Hungary as well, and apparently the Hungarian directors are becoming better and better at it. Several video clips attracted international attention and recognition, and furthermore in Toldi the Magyar Klipszemle (Hungarian Clip Parade) has now been organized for the past two years. Nevertheless the above tendency had an outstanding moment last year, the video of Chet Faker- The Trouble with Us, made by Kinopravda in Hungary. There is a nicely followed up thought in it, and its imagery is very beautiful as well. I hope that more and more famous musicians from abroad will give possibilities to Hungarian directors in the future.’
