An exhibition entitled Jelentés (Meaning) // Capa Center
Capa Center hosted a unique exhibition of three exceptional figures in the Hungarian art scene: Marcell Esterházy, Péter Forgács, and Gábor Gerhes presented their newest artworks in three solo yet united exhibitions from November 2015. The works of art presented at the exhibition titled MEANING shared common topical traits such as the analysis of power exercising techniques and the examination of the relationship between authority and individual. Supplemented with text from interviews conducted during the production period, the show was curated by Emese Mucsi.
Nominated by Gabriella Liptay:
‘It is an exciting, multi layered exhibition, that was conceived by 3 excellent artists (Gábor Gerhes, Péter Forgács, Marcell Esterházy) and a curator (Emese Mucsi) in Capa Center. The exhibition plays with the raising of uncomfortable questions, with collective and personal memory, with the ambiguity and diversity of “meanings” and the content of meaning, with language, visuality, decoding, reinterpretations, and with the social context, while also conveying a deadly serious message regarding all of the above. Shifting of Meaning, Control of Meaning, Attribution of Meaning-such titles are used as subheadings of the exhibition. All of them carry a particular atmosphere. I have been very interested for a longtime in good 21st century exhibitions and luckily in Hungary one comes across a few each year. Meaning was one of them, well introduced, nicely composed, significant in terms of its message as well as its aesthetics. An exhibition where one wants to return to discover, understand and unwrap newer and newer layers’
